The 1811EL is an industrial RCD tester, which benefits from having smart microprocessor control. This instrument operates between line and earth, making it suitable for industrial use in electrical installations where a neutral is not present or where connection to a neutral conductor is not possible. Each phase in a three phase system can be tested independently to verify RCD / circuit breaker tripping time and tripping current.

This unit works by either measuring tripping sensitivity which is done by injecting a ramp current in 1mA steps. The starting point of this ramp current is user selectable to save time and reduce power consumption. Alternatively, the tripping time of the breaker can be measured by introducing a pre-selected constant current (L-E).

The 1811EL is menu driven to make using the instrument easy and safe, with all selections being driven by the menu via the two line intelligent LCD display. A rotary dial is used to select current which is adjustable from 0-999mA (50Hz). The menu's are navigated by using the touch pad buttons to select parameters including type of test, starting current, positive or negative start edge. Testing is started by the unit automatically once voltage is detected, and on completion the results are displayed on the meter's LCD display.

The 1811EL is designed to operate between 110V and 317Vac (L-E), and can therefore test a whole range of breakers and RCD's.
