This unit is the 1813EL from SEW and is a microprocessor controlled RCD tester. It has a menu driven interface, which makes using it extremely easy, as the intuitive menu system will guide the user through the setup and test procedure to make sure that the testing is performed correctly each time.
The 1813EL can test the disconnection time of an RCD, and the disconnection current, as verification that a safety device trips within a rated time is essential to comly with the relevant standard. Both tests will also show the phase at tripping of the RCD. Zero crossing circuitry also permits testing of the RCD at either 0° or 180°. A two line LCD display not only displays the menu system, but also the test results and an automatic data hold function keeps the test results on the screen. The 1813EL is able to test the L-E voltage before testing occurs and over temperature protection and wiring correct indication keeps the user's and electrical system's safety at the forefront.
This device can operate between 110 to 317Vac referenced to earth, meaning lower voltage RCD's can be tested as well as those operating at higher voltages.
The user interface is particularly easy to use, with a dial adjustment to select any tripping current between 2-999mA at 50Hz and a two push button operation to control other features of the tester. Either intantaneous or delay action breakers can be selected in the menu. With accuracies better than those required by AS/NZS 3760, the 1813EL makes a sensible choice.
