The SEW 6213AIN digital insulation tester is a variable high voltage mehohmmeter capable of measuring from 500V to 10kV in 500V steps.. It's output voltage can be adjusted using 500V up or down steps. The meter is menu driven  and uses Dynamic Auto-Ranging technology, stored in it's microprocessor and internal software. The large and easy to understand LCD display has a bar graph which dispays the output voltage into the insulation, during the first 30 seconds of the test, and also during the automatic discharge of the circuit once the test is complete, as the voltage decays. In addition the elapsed time of the test is also displayed. A six digit dispay also shows the actual insulation resistance. The unit will display and sound a voltage warning when AC or DC is present before injecting test voltage if over 500V. The instrument will also buzz intermittently when high voltage is generated and this will continue until the circuit under test is fully discharged, making this unit built for user safety as well as fast and easy testing.

This insulation resistance meter has a number of features which make it unique, including EnerSave™ which enables the instrument to enter power saving mode when the TEST button is depressed for less than 3 seconds, limiting the time of the test. When this button is depressed for more than three seconds, the unit can test for upto 10 minutes continously. Automatic calculation of Dielectric absoption ratio (DAR) and Polarisation Index (PI) are also standard features, and greatly assist the maintenance technician to schedule preventative maintenance, as these features are used in determining the insulation condition. Auto Ranging Insulation Resistance is found on all ranges, meaning that the only thing that is required to be set by the user is the output voltage of the unit, as all aother features are automatic.

There are a total of 20 test ranges from 500V up to 10kV, and this can be increased in steps of 500V at a time, making this one of the most versatile testers available today. Smart microprocessor control takes most of the guesswork out of testing and the 2 line high contrast intelligent LCD module makes interpreatation of results easy. Whilst in insulation test mode the machines microprocessor will immediately stop the test if the LCD module shows a LOW MOHMS result, to prevent the occurence of high voltage being injected on a short circuit and giving protection to the instrument as well as circuit components. The 6213AIN has an integral guard circuit to minimise any measurement errors caused by surface leakage current, for example when measuring anything which could have dirt or moisture contamination. The guard circuit prevent falsely low measurements being obtained.
